Shakirah’s research journey started when she entered the Dermatopharmaceuticresearch group as a final year project student in 2015. She completed her project which involved formulation of a moisturizer using Tualang honey and it’s in vivo studies. In August 2016, Shakirah completed her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She then later rejoined the Dermatopharmaceuticresearch group in October 2016 as a research assistant before continuing her Master’s degree with the group in February 2017 and graduated on time in February 2019. Her master project focuses on the Evaluation of a Scale up formulation containing Piper Betle L. extract as a skin lightening agent. The study highlights the stability of the formulation after scale up as well as it’s in vitro and in vivo performance. Currently, she is working on her doctoral degree related to the development of nanosponge as a carrier for retinoic acid in the topical management of acne.
